After watching the videos on Language and Reading, how does this information impact you as a teacher?
Language and reading development in children are very important for me as a teacher. One of my main job responsibilities is to make sure children's language and reading skills are on target for their age. I need to be able to identify when there is a problem that would need attention from the reading or language specialist. By knowing the reading milestones, I will be able to quickly identify if my student has a learning disability. Also, I can help my students language by encouraging classroom discussions and by using longer, more complex sentences. Reading to my students will also encourage larger vocabulary. Poetry would be fun to learn rhyming and playing any type of word game helps students learn to read and increase their language skills.
